Christine and Cody

Picturesque Kananaskis was the site of Christine and Cody’s joyous wedding surrounded by friends and family.

Energetic and lively were the perfect words to describe the atmosphere at Christine and Cody’s reception in the Olympic Ballroom at the Kananaskis Delta Lodge. Each of the twenty-eight tables inside were covered in a pewter tablecloth with yellow rose petals sprinkled upon it. Centerpieces consisted of two cylindrical vases filled with dark blue pebbles with a floating candle each.

Mostly a younger group, everyone was enthusiastic and excited to see their friends married. During the cocktail hour, guests congregated in foyer area outside the main ballroom. Once they learned that the Flashworks Photobooth was on site, it non-stop from then on, after the dinner and speeches, of course. Next to the photobooth, was a half round table clad in black featuring a photo-guestbook with room on each page for guests to sign and pen in their well-wishes to the bride and groom. About half and hour before the bridal party arrived, the wall separating the foyer from the ballroom was pulled back allowing guests to examine the seating chart and acquaint themselves with their table-mates. Once the bridal party arrived, everyone took their seats, and pair by pair, the groomsmen and bridesmaids proceeded into the banquet hall. Introduced by Russel, Christine’s brother and MC for the evening, the newlyweds made their grand entrance to Calvin Harris’s “Feel So Close” and to thundering applause.

MC Russel humourously ran through a few of the ground rules for the evening, and permitted all in attendance to view a kiss (with a re-try) between Christine and Cody, as the standard clinking of the glasses wasn’t going to be tolerated. He also introduced the generous host of the evening, Dan Desantis, who besides running the Delta Kananaskis Lodge is also Mayor of the community. Dan was also invited to open two bottles of champagne for the bride and groom in a very unconventional way; the top of each bottle was sheared open with a long sabre. Following this, and a few toasts for milestone wedding anniversaries and birthdays amongst the guests, dinner commenced.

Dinner was superb and elaborately presented. Grilled beef tenderloin and chicken followed a summer watermelon salad and was concluded with a generous and rich chocolate raspberry crunch dessert. During dinner every once in a while a spontaneous cheer and a toast would erupt in the room. After dinner, a number of humourous and heartfelt speeches were given recounting tales of roommate camaraderie, long-time friendships, sibling drama, and love all around. The speeches concluded with Christine and Cody’s appreciation to all who were instrumental in making their big day such a success. They thanked all in attendance and described how their vendors for the evening were selected from friends and family such as photographer, Melanie Molloy from In Tune Images, who has know Christine from the age of two and was busily capturing the action all evening.

Subsequent to their speech, Christine and Cody made their way from the raised stage area down to the dance floor for their first dance. As guests gathered around, they danced slowly to Jason Walker’s version of “Kiss Me.” Right after, the photobooth was back up and running with no looking back until 1 in the morning. Guests kept coming back for more. They dressed each other in goofy props and pulled friends and family, willing and unwilling, in for a shot.

At one point in the evening, about a half dozen men in white with tall chef’s hats appeared to prepare the late lunch. It was quite a production as they assembled the tall chocolate fountain, cut the wide assortments of fruits, veggies, cold cuts, and cheeses, and laid out the wedding cake, cookies and other tasty treats that the guests would later partake in. It was also at about this time that glow sticks made their way to the dance floor which added colour to the frenzy of motion there.

Christine and Cody, you had a fantastic celebration! Even after the last song played, your guests still wanted to party on. Thanks for inviting us to your unforgettable wedding in the mountains. Congratulations and the best of luck, love and happiness in your lives together!
