BUILD’s Be Bop Sock Hop

Flashworks Photobooth was transported back in time to the 1960s for the BUILD’s Be Bop Sock Hop as the home building industry’s finest came together for some fun in their poodle skirts and slicked back hair.

Guests arriving for this evening of fun were treated to fantastic weather; a cloudless sky and the warm sun made it feel more like a day in July rather than a day in the swansong of summer. As they began to congregate in the Great Hall of the Jasper Park Lodge, it quickly became evident that this oldies themed event was going to be something to behold. Some of the men came dressed in white t-shirts and jeans with rolled up pant legs, some sported slick hair and the iconic cigarette pack in the shirt sleeve, others wore bowling shirts with retro insignias. As for the ladies, many polka-dot polka skirts and pointy-framed glasses made an appearance, as did scarves and bandanas. Some of the guests even had a team costume as was the case for the soda jerk Delta reps with roller skates and trays featuring actual faucets screwed on. And Babe Ruth, Marilyn Monroe, and Sandy Olsen and even Jerry Lewis came to this party.

To enter into the Beauvert room, guests had to pass through the centre of a giant record flanked with antique car, music note, and electric guitar cut-outs. Inside, the hall’s large projection screens showed photos and video from that epic era. Near the entrance stood a table with attendant prepared to make either floats or milkshakes for the guests. Around the hall were other cut-outs of 50s memorabilia and there were a number of stations where guests could play a fun game and receive an entry into a prize draw. For example with one of the games, guests had to balance a slinky on their foreheads for a minute.

When it was time to eat, each table made their way to the buffet replete with fresh fixings for salads, followed by everything one could wish for in a gourmet hotdog or burger. Dessert featured an ice cream bar with vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate ice cream along with every topping imaginable.

After dinner, a live band took the stage and played an entire repertoire of oldies and other rock classics. And of course, everyone wanted to get a shot in the photobooth in their costumes.
