Flashworks Photobooth was honoured to be invited to the 2012 Red Cross Regional Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation event.

Held within the Glenora room at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel in downtown Edmonton, a fairly casual gathering of Red Cross members and volunteers came together for some socializing and fun ahead of their annual general meeting. This room featured a unique lower area a few steps down from the surrounding level which accommodated a dance floor and was encompassed by gold railing. Along this rail were a place a few photos of the Red Cross operations in Slave Lake during last year’s devastating fire. There was a table and display set-up promoting the upcoming 10th Annual Red Cross Charity Golf Tournament, along with a number of tall cocktail table dressed in black stretch drapery and accented with red and white glass beads. Guests could help themselves to sandwiches, veggies, and tasty Swedish meatballs at three larger round tables. Along the east wall, a projector screen showed the Red Cross logo and text reading, “Regional Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation.”

Although there was no formal program to this part of the evening, the Minister of Alberta Health and Wellness, Mr. Fred Horne had a few words of praise for the valuable work of the Red Cross, especially during the Slave Lake fire. Otherwise, guests happily chatted amongst themselves while a DJ spun some music in the background. This music was occasionally punctuated by laughter and giggles from the Flashworks Photobooth as guests tried on props and devised humorous poses for their close-ups.

Well, we thought that last year’s “Celebrate Transit” staff and family party was exceptional; this year’s was even better!

Held at the Blatchford Field Air Hangar at Fort Edmonton Park, this large venue was mad event more expansive with the addition of a large tent to the hangar entrance which made room for the stage, band, and photobooth areas. On each side of large hangar doors stood two massive video screens which showed a slideshow of the highlights of the past year including photos from the ETS skills competition. In order to accommodate the sheer volume of guests expected, there were two sittings for the splendid dinner which was catered by Elizabethan Catering Service.

Upon entering, each guest was provided with a “superstar” necklace which could be set to blink or change colour, There was also a program where departed employees were remembered and awards were conferred in categories such as, best CTO rookies, best CSO operators, best fleet services, best DATS operator, among many others. However, the most anticipated award of the night was the most outstanding employee award, of which 34 individuals were decorated.

The entertainment for the evening included a traditional Scottish pipe band in traditional garb, and another 4 member band which played contemporary songs such as Bryan Adam’s, “The Summer of 69″ and Adele’s, “Rolling in the Deep” which kept people dancing into the evening.

As for the Flashworks Photobooth, once people learned that the photos were free and unlimited, there was always a consistent line up of guests wanting to pose with their families and co-workers. People enjoyed donning our humorous props and hopping in front of the green screen, and those in line could watch the action live on our external screen while they waited their turn.

Flashworks Photobooth would like to commend the organizers of this event for a job well done! Thanks for inviting us once again and for the opportunity to entertain your guests!

The Guru Digital Arts College celebrated their annual "Gala Guru" at the Art Gallery of Alberta. However, this year was even more auspicious than most as the college was "celebrating a digital decade" milestone anniversary.

The Guru Digital Arts College celebrated their annual “Gala Guru” at the Art Gallery of Alberta. However, this year was even more auspicious than most as the college was “celebrating a digital decade” milestone anniversary.

As guests walked into the art gallery, they were welcomed by enthusiastic students at a reception table which took their tickets. Most prominent on this table were large white 3D letters that stood along the leading edge and read “GURU X.” Laying on the table were a dozen or more cards arranged in a sort of mini-art show with names such as “Gala Cow”, “Paralyzed in Space”, “Witch Painting”, and “Giraffe Love.” These cards, along with other art and installations around the room were all amazing works of the talent students from the Guru Digital Arts College.

The room itself was furnished with cocktail tables and modern and stylish chairs and couches perfect for more relaxed socializing and networking. Alumni and current student’s works could be found around the hall including some interesting works in two corners involving light and projections. Above them, two large abstract woodcut-like prints (on vinyl?) occupied the north and west walls.

Arts always bring people energy and passion. Even late into the evening, the were always new faces arriving to partake in the show. The night was a delightful mix of dancing and mingling, eating and drinking, and taking goofy pictures in our photobooth.

Thank you very much for asking Flashworks Photobooth to ring in the start of your next digital decade!

Flashworks Photobooth had a great time entertaining the students of Christ the King School for their safe grad at the Gateway Entertainment Centre.

Starting at midnight, students were excited to partake in the entertainment that was offered to create an evening of fun that will be long remembered. Continuous games of bowling, top 40s music to match, and the photobooth made for non-stop excitement. Of course, food is essential for any great party, and the pizza, slushies, and other finger foods provided satisfaction for the midnight cravings…or in this case a 2 am snack.

The photobooth was a hit throughout the night and was constantly occupied. Costumes and silly faces were a source of laughter and happiness for the students while they gathered memories with their classmates. By the end of the night (or early morning), students had taken tons of memorable photos with their friends that will always highlight the unforgetable bonds of friendship made throughout the years.

Thank-you for having Flashworks Photobooth back at this year’s safe grad. Congratulations to all the graduates and we wish you all the luck and prosperity on your future endeavors.

Flashworks Photobooth had a lot of fun spicing up the early Tuesday afternoon for the 1st anniversary of the Grant MacEwan University Services Centre.

Located atop the west parkade at 110 street and 104 avenue, this 5,000 square-metre facility is quite impressive. Designed with an open concept in mind, the interior consists wide open spaces, collaborative areas with screening panels rather than walls, and unique furniture make this an unconventional office space to be sure! The core of the USC features a high roof with windows all around to let in the daylight, and a waterfall surrounded by stylish but utilitarian seating. The boardrooms feature round tables and brightly coloured chairs with tall floor to ceiling windows and doors. Just off of the central open space was a modern kitchen area with coffee and hot water dispensers and is definitely a hub of activity during lunch breaks.

The decor around the USC indicated that something special was afoot. Colourful spiral decorations were hung around the kitchen and central area, along with tall bunches of multicoloured helium filled balloons. A popcorn machine filled the air with the enticing scent of fresh popcorn, and iced pop, chips, and “birthday” cake was served to celebrate the occasion.

It was almost strange to hear so much laughter in an office environment but people couldn’t help themselves once they saw each other in their goofy garb and started making faces in the booth. Everyone that used the booth had a super time and most kept coming back for more.

Thanks to the University Services Centre for making us a part of their important milestone!

For a short time, New York came to the main ballroom of the Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Edmonton. Johnson Inc put on a first class party for their employees attending the West Region Forum.

As guests entered the long hallway leading to the Sutton’s various banquet rooms, they were struck by a towering ice sculpture of the Empire State Building backlit in red. Upon turning the corner it was as if the guests were somehow magically transported to New York City. Both sides of the hallway were plush with greenery and ornate light poles designed to imitate a stroll through central park. Just outside of the main ballroom video screens showed clips of different movies filmed in New York, including Spiderman, Saturday Night Fever, The Ghostbusters, amongst others. There was also an elegant red and black theme as demonstrated by the elegant attire of the guests, some wearing red and black feather boas.

Inside the ballroom, the magic continued. The entire length of every wall, top to bottom, was covered in imagery from New York like a giant wallpaper. There was a central stage and dance floor complete with a white grand piano. During the evening, the guests were treated to musical theatre and to a fantastic buffet dinner.

However, the Flashworks Photobooth completed the New York theme with the magic of our green screen. Guests could pose before famous New York landscapes and scenery such as the Brooklyn bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square. Everyone had a great time dressing up in the props and posing with their friends and coworkers.

Flashworks Photobooth would like to thank the organizers of this fabulous event for including us. We had a blast entertaining your guests and being a part of the Big Apple action!

Hundreds of students and their families and friends gathered together at the Evangel Pentacostal Assembly to witness their loved ones receive degrees from the King’s University College.

Upon entering the Assembly, guests noticed the tall pop-up displays arranged around the circumference of the hall depicting full length portraits of past graduates showing their names and majors. They represented every department at the university, such as Arts, Commerce, Education, Music etc. Every student on those posters looked so energetic and ready to excel in the world.

After you signed in at the registration table, you couldn’t miss the CDs for sale on the next table. This album showcased the voice of the talented Jontue Elan, a King’s University student who is already on the path of a great musical career. Not far from this table and at the south end of the building, students and their guests could enjoy some refreshments and socializing. This gymnasium was decorated with festive lights along the entrance way and colourful balloons with the King’s University. Fresh juices, coffee and desserts were served, while more of the aforementioned pop-up displays were arrayed all around the gym.

On the second floor of the assembly next to the entrance to the second level of seating, was a table full of gifts for the Bachelor of Education graduates. There was a letter from the university, a pin with school logo and a special gift prepared by the King’s University.

Starting at 2pm, the Spring Convocation 2012 program featured a number of beautiful musical segments and inspirational speeches and messages from school staff and special speakers. After the convocational address, all the students line up in the hallway and awaited anxiously in preparation to receive their degrees. Once, in the assembly hall, they were called on stage for their degree conferment. Mayor Stephen Mandel arrived discretely while the students were waiting in line to be called up. As a guest speaker, Mayor Mandel gave a warm speech and wished the graduates all the best in the future endeavours.

After the program concluded and the Academic procession left the hall, the students began to celebrate with their families and friends. They showed their biggest smiles in the photo booth, their laughter filled the assembly, and they concluded their time at the King’s University College mindful of the unforgettable memories created there.

This was the students’ day and they earned it! Flashworks Photobooth wishes each and every student from the spring class of 2012 every success in the future!

Tom and Jen celebrated their wedding reception at the Polish Veteran’s Hall in north Edmonton. This reception was for all their friends and family who were unable to celebrate with them at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

Upon entering the hall, the theme of yellow, silver, and blue was immediately evident. Guests were able to find their seating arrangement according to silver tags with their names and table name. There was also a table for gifts which featured 3 suitcases stacked on each other with the topmost one open, into which guests could place their cards.

In the dinning room, each table was draped with a yellow tablecloth and named after a different location that Jen and Tom have visited in their travels such as Fairmont, Seattle, Bangkok, Rome, Paris, Brussels, Athens, and New Orleans amongst others. In addition to a photo in a blue frame of each location, the centerpieces consisted of a glass bowl filled with sand, sea shells, and a round tea light candle, surrounded by glass beads. And each place setting had a silver napkin laid across it with a small white shell delicately placed in the center.

Near the dance floor stood a small square table showcasing Jen and Tom three tiered wedding cake topped with a large “R” letter and blue and yellow bows. However, this was no ordinary wedding cake. It was a giant nanaimo bar with each tier being a different flavour. The top was the usual nanaimo bar flavour, the middle was peanut butter, and the base was mint flavoured. Yum!

The family style dinner was absolutely superb and the speeches were fun and entertaining. Afterwards, a slideshow showed Tom and Jen’s younger days, as well as images of their wedding in the Dominican Republic. It was cute to watch the numerous children that sat down on the dance floor in front of the screen laugh at the many humourous images.

Shortly after the slideshow, AJ and Mario from Revolution DJ Services kicked off the rest of the evening. They kept the dance floor full with a wide range of songs from all genres and eras, and took requests as well.

Young and old alike had a great time with the photobooth. The props were a big hit and everyone enjoyed reviewing their print-outs and pasting their strips into Tom and Jen’s album. This album was on a table dressed in yellow and silver drapery and which was accented with a large glass goblet of sand and shells, and a vintage style suitcase containing tape and pens so that guests could writing the newly weds their well-wishes.

Tom and Jen, Flashworks Photobooth would like to wish you all the blessings in the world as you continue your journey together. Thanks for including us in your special day!

Flashworks Photobooth was happy to entertain the guests of the Edmonton Metro News on the auspicious occasion of its 5th anniversary.

Serving as the perfect occasion to thank the loyal clients and partners of the Metro, around 150 clients and their families came to the Yellowhead Brewery.

Located in a vintage building in downtown Edmonton, the Yellowhead Brewery was the perfect venue for such an event. This unique brick building built in 1910 building features large windows looking into the brewery area with stainless steel tanks. Opposite the brewery area guests enjoyed beverages and a variety of tasty appetizers as they socialized around the tall wooden tables and cocktail stools. Each table had two tall cylinder centerpieces filled with green gel balls topped by a tea light candle. Green balloons were tied to chairs around the room and puffy fabric balls of green and white hung from the ceiling.

About an hour into the evening, publisher Metro Western Canada, Steve Shrout, took the stage to welcome all in attendance and to thank them for their support. Not long after, business cards were drawn for door prize gift bags and the grand prize of an iPad.

Thank-you to Metro Edmonton for inviting us to be part of your birthday celebration. Here’s to another 5 successful years!

A red carpet with gold stanchions led down to hall to the Shaw’s Riverview room and the sponsors lounge where guests could mingle and socialize before the start of the cocktail hour in the main banquet ballroom. Within the Riverview Room cocktail tables of different heights were arranged for standing or sitting, and featured gold tablecloths and centerpieces of short tealight candles and taller glass cylinders wrapped with 1920s themed motifs. In the background, music from the 1920s added to the atmosphere of the room. Hors d’oeuvres were served by banquet staff and oysters were iced on a table along the north wall of the room. Along the wall of windows facing the river valley, representatives from Vinomania were providing samples of a variety of wines from California, Australian, and New Zealand.

However, the highlight of this lounge was the guests themselves. It was great to see so many interesting and elegant outfits. The men were in suits and tuxedos complete with top hats (and some with canes) while the ladies were attired in vintage dresses and evening gowns, many with stylish hats and fascinators. There was even a balloon artist making some imaginative and amazing head wear for those that arrived without. And Ernest from Studio-E Photography was on site to capture posed and candid moments, alike.

This reception was very elegant and magnificent…nothing short of sophistication. All these people were gathered together in the wonderful cause of fundraising for student scholarships and bursaries at the MacEwan University. Thanks so much for allowing Flashworks Photobooth to be apart of this fantastic evening!
